The 1970s Vintage Omega Constellation
Featuring an 18K solid gold case and a yellow gold dial. The iconic pie-pan dial, De Luxe version with hand‑rivetted gold hour markers inlaid with black onyx and “Dauphine” gold hands.
This 34mm Omega Constellation is the most luxurious and top-of-the-line example available at its time of production. It is powered by the excellent calibre 561 chronometer, officially certified. Today, it remains extremely well-cared-for and in an exceptionally well-preserved condition.

CASE & BRACELET
The luxurious and stylish 18K yellow gold case is in beautiful condition, showing evidence of being polished very minimally in its past, as the original case geometry and finishing are strong throughout. The screw-in solid gold caseback is in exceptional condition, showing minimal signs of use with the Omega Constellation Observatory medallion in very crisp condition. The original hammered background yellow gold crown at 3 o’clock with embossed Omega-signed logo has been professionally restored by Omega in Switzerland.
Adding further allure, the watch features the immediately recognisable “dog leg” lugs, a hallmark of mid-century design, showcasing an angular elegance that complements the case’s clean lines and a unique element collectors are always after and making the watch all that much more special.
Additionally, an original Omega two-piece, handmade leather strap, finished with a gold-plated stainless steel buckle, adds a touch of elegance and durability to the timepiece.

This particular example is at the top of what Omega had to offer back then, and a few details must be mentioned. The original gold “pie-pan” shaped dial is simply incredible, remarkably well-preserved and is among the most coveted features by seasoned collectors. The original dial and dauphine hands are crafted from solid gold, with indexes inlaid with black enamel — a rare feature. Remarkably, they remain in exceptional condition, showing no signs of damage or oxidation.

In the Hands of Time: Historical Value
The timepiece holds significant historical value, having been gifted to the esteemed Maltese industrialist George Portanier (1903 – 1987) on his 70th Birthday in 1973.
Corporate Identity: PORTANIER BROS. LTD.
The presentation was made by Portanier Brothers Limited, the company he owned and incorporated with his children in 1966.
After George Portanier’s passing, the watch was passed to his daughter, Doris Portanier (died 1997), who was married to Anthony Cini. Subsequently, her son, Victor Cini, inherited and holds the timepiece.
This Omega Constellation is a tangible representation of the industrial success and enduring legacy of the Portanier Brothers Limited within Malta’s economic history.
Its superb condition further underscores its provenance and the care it received as a cherished personal and corporate memento.
